| A triptych of the Annunciation and two Prophets was completed in 1445 and placed in the 蒰lise des Pr阠heurs in Aix-en-Provence. The Annunciation is still there, but one of the wings is now in Brussels and the other is divided into two parts, one in Amsterdam (Rijksmuseum) and the other in Rotterdam. The style of the altarpiece shows many points of contact with Flemish art, and others with the art of Naples; various identifications of the artist have been suggested, but it is likely that the painter was a Frenchman, and Jean Chapus, who lived in Aix and was working for King Ren?of Anjou and Naples in 1437 and 1448, seems to fit the bill. |
