Author's biography |
German painter mainly of portraits. He became Court Painter to the Emperor Maximilian I. He was an early exponent of the group portrait, e.g. The Rehlinger Family (1517, Alte Pinakothek, Munich). All attributions to him are based on the Cuspinian Family (private collection) which has an inscription dated 1520 and giving Strigel's name. There are, however, two pictures in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Maximilian and his Family, and the Virgin and Child with St Anne which are apparently of about 1515 but came from the same complex as the Cuspinian Family. |
